To me, many things look like something else, that they are supposed to be. That’s why I make art. The first time I saw this, I knew I had to photograph it.
I photographed this one last summer, a year ago, in Finnish archipelago. It’s an old timber house, with an old combustion engine water pump. It works as a great example, about how long human made complexity still echoes, even when left untouched for decades.
It kind of looks like an old robot. It reminded me of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, an animated film by Hayao Miyazaki.

Looks a bit like an Aztec skull rack (like http://history.missouristate.edu/jchuchiak/aztecs46.gif ) or a Maori/Polynesian sculpture.. Cute indeed.
Indeed, both have the same feeling.
Thet reminds me of how everything in reality has a tendency to organize logically.
If you think of the big bang, and forming of the material universe, and the cells of the growing plant. So do the animals have a tendency to organice raw materials (bird nests, beaver dams, ant colonies).
It’s all about storing thoughts and experiences. That’s what the human culture is as well.
shure that this is a water pumb? it really looks like an verry old forgotten robot.
